By Rick Lyon, Co-Editor
Hull and East Yorkshire’s first mayor has formally taken office.
Luke Campbell has signed the Mayoral Declaration of Acceptance of Office to officially start his role heading up the new Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority (HEYCA).
The mayor assumes control over devolved powers and will be the lead figure responsible for an investment fund worth £400m over the next 30 years.
Mayor Campbell said: “I am proud to be trusted by local people to help bring this region the jobs, economic growth and prosperity we deserve.
“By bringing together the huge strengths and ambitions we have here, we can work together to deliver more opportunities and growth.
“I am determined to deliver for our businesses and local communities – and we are going to hit the ground running.
“This includes going out there nationally and internationally to showcase our area, its businesses and its people to attract investment, and planning to deliver the transport, skills and support our businesses need.
“It’s vital that I continue meeting and listening to everyone from business leaders to young people planning their first career steps.
“It’s an exciting time and the key thing is to focus on delivery.
“I will be collaborating with many partners here, with central government and others to make the most of the devolved powers and funding we’ve already secured – and give Hull and East Yorkshire a bright economic future.”
As part of his role, the mayor will chair the HEYCA cabinet, working alongside two elected members from each of Hull City Council and East Riding Council.
